The Network at Work

  • Equity and Engagement:
Building a strong and diverse network of individuals and organizations that want to contribute to the outdoor learning movement is our primary priority. Our focus remains on closing the nature gap by increasing involvement in our network and diversity in our partnerships.
  • Outdoor Childcare Licensing Initiatives:
In partnership with Natural Start Alliance and DHHS/OCFS, MaineECO is advocating for and working to develop a childcare licensing regulatory system that supports and allows for outdoor nature-based childcare in Maine. To get involved in this initiative please join our public policy and advocacy meetings listed on our calendar.
  • Growing ONB Professional Development:
To support high quality, outdoor learning for young children in Maine, we are helping to create free and readily available training opportunities centered on the most popular ONB topics. More details on this work can be found on our events and supports page.
  • Early Childhood & Climate:
Increasing research on climate change is highlighting the impacts it has on young children as well as the importance of incorporating environmental literacy into our early childhood curriculums. The state of Maine is progressive in its climate change resiliency plan and MaineECO is partnering with specialists in the Governor’s office as well as the Department of Education Office of Innovation to bring an early childhood voice to the climate conversation.
